Boise, ID (CBS2) — For the first time in the program's history Northwest Nazarene University's men's basketball team defeated the 20-ranked and top-seeded Saint Martin's in the final game Saturday with a 65-57 win to claim the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball championship.
NNU has now earned their second-ever automatic bid for a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The first NNU team that earned a spot in the NCAA was the 2021 team through an at-large selection.
The MVP of the championship was Ryzin Bergersen who lead all scorers by 22 points. He scored 7 out of 10 shots from the floor and 6 out of 7 shots from the three-point line. He scored 19 points against Seattle Pacific in the quarterfinals and another 9 against Montana State Billings in the semifinals.
NNU now wait until the NCAA DII Men's Basketball selection to find out their seed, opponent, and location they will play in next week's opening round of the tournament. The selection will air on Sunday at 9 pm mountain time on the NCAA.com
